So in the 80’s there were lots of drugs, bad clothing choices, and most importantly… AWESOME Saturday morning cartoons / kids shows. American companies had finally grasped the importance of Japanese / Japanese-like animation, called Anime. They started hiring companies in Japan to create animated cartoon series to go along with their products. This created a whole slew of great programming and has left us 80’s kids with fond memories of a now gone era.
I reveled in GI-JOE, HE-MAN, and TRANSFORMERS. I also stared blankly into the screen for almost any other toon at the time. I was addicted to the artwork (Anime). But at that time in America there was no way for me to get my fix, except through the kids shows and cartoons that were using it for their animation. Now days there are few shows that don’t have Anime influence, and I can pull up Japanese Manga or Anime at any time of my iPhone. Back then, not so easy! So, if the artwork was Japanese, colorful, or exciting… I was watching. This meant that shows like SHE-RA, RAINBOW BRITE, CARE BEARS, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, MY LITTLE PONY, and JEM, earned a place in my heart even though they were intended for girls. Now, while I liked the shows, I never liked the dolls or the barbies. The closest I came to that was having a male cabbage patch kid named Richard Kent, who played baseball. He had the uniform and everything, and he is also the reason I have no kids, now. I treated him badly, and now I am afraid to try for real!
Anyway, I was sharing this story with another fellow comic geek / 80’s baby, Frankie. Frankie has a blog that reviews everything Comic/Pop-Culture/Media (check the link at the bottom), and he is constantly finding new and exciting things. Well, upon mentioning my fondness for JEM and the HOLOGRAMS, he directed me to this link.

Omg, I never knew JEM had albums, let alone the MISFITS. Now I can jam all over my room while wearing god awful clothing and singing really cheesy lyrics. Hey, don’t judge me. Just head over to The JEM Player and download your own album. You know you want to! JEM JEM is truly outrageous… truly truly truly outrageous!
“I’m sending this one out to Richard Kent, the best doll a boy could have, thanks Dick!”
Looking Forward… J
